About Me

I was born and raise in the Philippines. My family and I migrated to Canada in 2018, right after I graduated secondary school, in hopes of having a better life and future for us.

A new place, a new start. I don't know where life is going to take me but here I am, currently a mental health worker in Coast Mental Health. Advocating and making a difference in someone's life.

Hobbies

Reading Books

Reading a book- mostly fiction books and poems, has always been a way for me to temporarily escape reality. This is usually where I learn new ways on  how to view things in different perspectives. I am an introvert person that is why I am very shy socializing with people, but I have learned a lot of things in reading books which I have applied in real life.

Watching Anime and Kdrama

Watching anime and k-dramas helped me to unwind and relax my mind for a bit. As I watch, I also learn and understand how cultures are different from each other. I have always been interested with other cultures and this has been a way for me to learn their ways of life and also their history.

Academics

I was a former Financial Management student at Langara College and my realization of my passion for helping, understanding, and engaging with the community grew stronger.

Transferring to DASSH opened opportunities for me to explore courses where I get to develop skills that I will needing to achieve my full potential.

Courses

Here are some of the courses where I have learned a lot:

  • BUSM 1115

  • CPSP 1030

  • GEOG 1110

  • PSYC 1215

  • ENVS 2100

  • ASIA 2115 & 2215

  • WMST 1216

  • DASSH 2199

During my first year in DASSH program, I have taken courses and electives that needs to do research- which I started to love doing. Courses like WMST 1216, where you learn how to analyze what the women's experiences in life in the past and seeing the struggle of making it better overtime. I came across journals while researching and I am so glad I did because my perspectives expanded from all those female writers and it did help me with my work since I am working mostly with vulnerable and stigmatized women.

GEOG 1110 is a course where I get to expand my knowledge about human geography. Learning the spaces, ethnicity, the relationship between societies and natural environment. We had to do a research about the connection between our place, Vancouver, and any specific places that we want to include and the people in it including yourself. It was an interesting project to do because at the start you don't really know what to do, so you take it bit by bit and then it just connects. I have learned a lot from it that it helped me through my job of being a support worker and now a mental health worker.

Courses I enjoyed taking

I really enjoyed taking ASIA 2115 & 2215. I am a big fan of Japan's creative and innovative technology, food, and anime. It also a great course to take to learn more about Japanese cultures. Understanding their way of life and its differences from other's made me more aware and knowledgeable.

CPSP 1030 is literally a course that is easy at first and then it gets complicated through out. However, I really enjoyed it because I get to build my own website and I think I kind looked cool doing coding HAHA! It's very helpful especially with making the e-portfolio even though I didn't do it from scratch because it will take me forever.

Not to forget how navigating through documents and making reports have been made easy by taking the BCAP 1200 course. This course really helped enhanced my skills in making easier tasks done while doing research in my job.
